Buying Top 10 list of the best PC games from 2009

BUYING GUIDE.

I've put together my Top Games of the Year list and while there were a lot of great games released in 2009 only one game could get the top spot. While putting this list together I was surprised at how diverse the games were in terms of genre, game play style and storyline. This year's list includes a fantasy RPG, Superhero action game, first person shooters, sci-fi and historical RTS games and more.

1. Dragon Age: Origins
Release Date: Nov 3, 2009
Genre: Traditional Role Playing
Theme: Fantasy
Rating: M for Mature
Game Modes: Single player

A game like Dragon Age: Origins doesn't come along very often. With a compelling storyline, excellent graphics and flawless game interface/controls Dragon Age Origins is not only the best game of 2009 but one of the best of the decade. Dragon Age: Origins is a fantasy computer role playing game that takes players on a journey across the Kingdom of Ferelden on the continent of Thedas.

2. Left 4 Dead 2
Release Date: Nov 17, 2009
Genre: Action - First Person Shooter
Theme: Survival Horror
Rating: M for Mature
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: Left 4 Dead

Left 4 Dead 2 doesn't break any new ground but it does is imporve upon nearly every aspect of the original game with new characters, zombies, game modes and more all help to make it a must have from this year's crop of video games. Left 4 Dead 2 is the follow up to the survival horror co-op game Left 4 Dead in which players take on the role of a survivor who must shoot themselves out of zombie and mutant infested environments and make it to a safe zone/extraction point.

3. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Theme: Comic/Super Hero
Rating: T for Teen
Game Modes: Single player

4. Empire: Total War
Release Date: Mar 3, 2009
Genre: Turn Based Strategy/Real Time Strategy
Theme: Historical
Rating: Rating Pending
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: Total War
Empire: Total War continues the tradition of grand turn based and real time strategy that has made the Total War series one of the most critically acclaimed and popular game series in it's genre. In Empire Total War players command factions through the eighteenth century Age of Enlightenment as they attempt to conquer the globe.

5. Borderlands
Release Date: Oct 26, 2009
Genre: Action - First Person Shooter
Theme: Sci-Fi
Rating: M for Mature
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: Borderlands

On the edge of the galaxy lies the planet Pandora which once offered a hope for prosperity and a better life to the human colonists who ventured there. Borderlands is first person shooter that takes place distant planet know as Pandora and puts players in the role of four playable characters each with their own skills and story.

6. Street Fighter IV
Release Date: Jul 7, 2009
Genre: Action - Fighting
Theme: Beat 'em Up
Rating: T for Teen
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: Street Fighter

Street Fighter IV is a fighting game that was first released as an upright arcade game back in 2008. It then made it's way to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in early 2009 and finally was made available for Windows based PCs on July 7, 2009.

7. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Release Date: Nov 10, 2009
Genre: Action First Person Shooter
Theme: Modern Military
Rating: M for Mature
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: Call of Duty, Modern Warfare

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 became the biggest entertainment launch ever and for the most part it did live up to the hype, but the lack of dedicated multiplayer servers plus the short and very scripted single player mode failed to lift this to the top spot on many game of the year lists... including this one. In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 players will take the role of a Sergeant Gary Sanderson a member of the elite special forces unit know as Task Force 141.

8. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
Release Date: Feb 27, 2009
Genre: Real Time Strategy
Theme: Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Rating: M for Mature
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: Warhammer

One of the early releases this year, Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II has remained one of the best of the year. With four playable armies, the Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, and Tyranids and a new style of game play, Dawn of War II improves upon the

9. Resident Evil 5

Chris Redfield, hero from the original Resident Evil game, is back in Resident Evil 5. Set 10 years since the events of the first game Resident Evil 5 takes place in a fictionalized west African region. Chris and Sheva Alomar are on a mission to capture an arms dealer before he is able to sell a bio weapon on the black market. Along the way they encounter scores of parasite infected zombies know as Majini.

10. ArmA II
Release Date: Jul 2, 2009
Genre: Action Shooter
Theme: Modern Military
Rating: M for Mature
Game Modes: Single player, multiplayer
Game Series: ARMA, Operation Flashpoint

ARMA II is modern military tactical action game in which players controls a squad of troops through various combat missions that can include both land and air vehicles. The game is set in a fictitious eastern European country named Chernarus, whose control fought over by pro-democractic and pro-communist factions.
